Several years ago, Peter and a board of trustees created a company called "ART IN SIGHT". The company is devoted to the integration of Art, Science and Health education. It has completed five major installations on the island of Hawaii working with all ages and a variety of communities, including Waikoloa Elementary School, Kohala High School, Hawaii Preparatory Academy. The public artworks created emphasize the island ecosystems and a holistic psychology based in the belief of interconnectedness.

EXAMPLE CLASSES
AND ACTIVITIES
Pottery Demonstrations and Classes
Shells, cones, bowls, teacups, sake – sets, hula vases, Hawaiian ‘honey pots’ — these are just a few of the multi-facetted array of shapes and vessels you will witness spinning off the pottery wheel under the hands of local ceramic artist Peter Kowalke. Includes all clay, tools necessary to create your own ceramic creation on the pottery wheel. Your creations will then be fired, glazed, and shipped to your home.
Grab a Gecko for Young Reptile Experts
Using a self-hardening paperclay with pre-formed molds, young artists create and decorate their own colorful geckos. Artists take home their completed geckos. Flat rate mailing box included for getting the masterpiece home. All materials included.
Woodblock Printing
Create your own woodblock print using the Japanese reduction print process. Japanese shina plywood, carving tools, archival paper, and printing inks are provided. Bring your ideas and leave with your print series and your carved blocks. Participants under 13 years of age require parental supervision due to the use of very sharp tools. Includes all inks, tools, woodblocks, paper, and a mat.
Monoprints
A monoprint is a unique piece of art that is created by using paint, imprints, screens, and other markings on a piece of plexi-glass and transferred by hand to paper. The final piece of work is unique. The class includes a discussion of the process, finding the right materials, and hand printing on archival paper. Each artist leaves with three of their own masterpieces. Includes use of all plates, paints and archival paper.
Abstract Painting: 2 Hours to Great Abs
Come explore color, texture, shape, line and form with Artist Peter Antrim Kowalke. You will be supplied with lush paints, pigments, and a variety of ‘unusual’ painting tools to create your 'Polynesian Palette' and painting tool kit. Create poetic images reflecting the visual equivalent of a 'jazzy jam session' capturing your time on the fiery and tranquil Island of Hawaii. Includes all paint, tools, paper and a gallery wrap canvas. |
